ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÙÍø (ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÙÍø) is committed to promoting the health and well-being of our students.
ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÙÍø’s approach to student health and well-being is supported by multiple pillars: a holistic and American Values-based approach to education, an inquiry-based curriculum, a school-wide strategic plan, theoretical underpinnings in positive education, and a well-being philosophy.
Health and Well-being at ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÙÍø is not the result of any one universal program, rather, it is a cumulative and comprehensive approach to provide a holistic range of experiences, activities and programs that scaffold and spiral school-wide. Health and well-being is part of the ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÙÍø ecosystem.
American International Educational Values
Prioritize personalized academic success and achievement which is essential for building students’ self-esteem and confidence. When students feel capable and successful, they are more likely to have positive mental health and well-being.
Emphasize the importance of creativity, innovation, and critical thinking. These skills promote problem-solving and decision-making, which can lead to reduced stress and better health outcomes.
Foster a sense of community and connectedness among students. This sense of belonging can lead to increased social support, better mental health outcomes, and improved academic performance.
Promote physical health and well-being through physical education and health classes, athletics, and activity programs. By encouraging healthy lifestyles and habits at an early age, students develop lifelong habits that support their overall health and wellbeing.
Support and accept mistakes and failure as the normal part of learning and developing healthy decision making skills.
Supportive systems and structures are in place that help students learn from mistakes, recover from failures, in order to embrace challenges.
Environmental Monitoring
ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÙÍø developed a comprehensive air quality monitoring program in 2019 acknowledging the health and well-being benefits. Air quality monitoring devices were placed in different locations on campus, and every learning space at the school had air purification devices installed.
ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÙÍø is the only school in Egypt with an air monitoring and purification system. In addition to reducing energy pollutants, in 2023 ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÙÍø installed a school-wide solar project to offset our carbon footprint.
Positive Education
ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÙÍø partnered with a Positive Education well-being consultant in 2018. The consultant visited ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÙÍø multiple times collaborating with the school community on the topic of health and well-being, and produced a consultant report that guided ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÙÍøs well-being work. ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÙÍø designed our Well-being Philosophy during the Positive Education consultancy.
The Positive Education framework:
Strategic Plan
ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÙÍøs Strategic Plans have maintained a commitment to promoting student, faculty, and staff well-being over the past ten years.
The current ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÙÍø strategic plan pillar 2 is dedicated to wellbeing.
Well-being Philosophy
At ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÙÍø we recognize that a community prioritizing well-being cultivates flourishing citizens. We consistently and intentionally seek to enhance relationships, foster deep and enduring engagement with learning, promote meaningful contributions to the community and develop healthy balanced individuals whose commitment to lifelong well-being makes the world around them a better place.
Health & Well-being in Divisions
Health & Well-being of the Community
To support the well-being of our faculty, staff, visiting alumni, and parents, we offer a range of campus facilities and support systems. Our Health Office is staffed by two full time nurses, and a weekly visiting Medical Doctor, ensuring immediate access to healthcare services. Additionally, we provide convenient amenities such as a travel agency, CIB bank facility, ATM machine, two cafes, and other resources to enhance convenience and comfort.
Our campus boasts state-of-the-art facilities that cater to various wellness needs. From a heated swimming pool and air-conditioned recreation facility to a cutting-edge weight/fitness room and a 200m track, we offer opportunities for both relaxation and invigorating workouts. These facilities are also available for faculty and staff to enjoy on early release days, where they can participate in wellness sessions led by their peers. These sessions cover a wide range of activities, including mindfulness practices, stress reduction techniques, and discussions on maintaining a healthy work-life balance. Recognizing the positive impact of creative expression on well-being, our visual arts teachers provide opportunities for faculty, staff, and visiting alumni to explore their artistic side. These sessions offer a chance to relax, unwind, and find inspiration in the process.
We also extend a warm welcome to our visiting alumni, inviting them to relive cherished memories and create new ones on our beautiful campus. Whether it's taking a leisurely stroll on our track, enjoying a workout at the gym, swimming in our pool, or hosting an alumni event, our visiting alumni experience the same sense of well-being they once enjoyed during their time at ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÙÍø.
